Song Dong at The Barbican Center

March 27th, 2012

Courtesy of AXA Art, Gillian and Alex attended the ‘Waste Not’ exhibition at The Curve in the Barbican center on Thursday 22nd March. This unusual show by Chinese artist Song Dong shows the end result of a lifetime of obsessive hoarding. Zhao Xiangyuan (Dong’s mother) amassed in excess of 10,000 possessions over a period of 5 decades. In 2005 together with his mother, Dong brought these household items to the Tokyo Art Projects in Beijing. Since then Xiangyuan has sadly passed but Dong continues to show his mother’s legacy to the masses across the world.

This fascinating show runs until 12th June at The Curve in The Barbican Center. Entry is Free.

Art Services Panel

March 1st, 2012
Thursday 9 February 2012 saw the informal launch of the Art Services Panel at Getty Images Gallery, London.

The Art Services Panel brings together a tailored selection of established and reputable businesses offering high quality fine art services. The aim of the panel is to provide collectors and art industry professionals with clear and transparent access to these services, with a quality assurance that panel members are experts in their chosen fields.

The Art Services Panel was formed by ChristopherDigby (Loveartinsurance) and Natasha Woolsey (John Jones) late 2011, who were looking for new opportunities to collaborate with established art service providers in order to offer their clients a more comprehensive all round service.

Creative direction for the Panel has been provided by Browns Design, forerunners in this area of the art market, to help create marketing material that best reflects the aims of the panel and the members that are involved.

GettyImages Gallery is one of the founding panel members, and hosted the launch event to allow key representatives of each business to meet face to face. The evening provided attendees with the opportunity to discuss plans for 2012, and hear direction and ideas for the project from Christopher and Natasha.

Peter Tullin from CultureLabel provided some supporting words on why he thought the panel project was a good idea and what he felt could be achieved by members. This led to some strong discussion within the group which has helped to shape plans for continuing the momentum of the panel.

The main tools of the ASP will be a Directory listing the ‘best of breed’ members and a Panel Talk format. This will be ideal for international art fairs, collector groups, educational institutions and corporate organisations wishing to benefit from interesting, relevant and well delivered content on a variety of topical art service subjects.

The current founder members are:

AXA Art Insurance

Be Smart About Art Academy

Browns

Brownhill Insurance Group/Loveartinsurance.co.uk

Christies

Coram James Ltd
